Project: Former Market Hall, Maldon

The former Market Hall was constructed by the new Shire of Maldon in 1859 to support local producers and to help establish the permanency of the town. The venture was not successful due to the proximity of the much larger market at Castlemaine and soon closed. In 1865 the council converted the building to the Shire Hall and offices which it remained until new offices were built in 1964. The building then became the Maldon Museum and is now included on the Victorian Heritage Register.

In 2011 Coleman Architects prepared a Conservation Management Plan for Mount Alexander Shire Council, that included a condition report identifying a range of conservation issues. We then prepared documentation for some of the identified conservation works, including addressing rising damp and repairs to external render. The work was carried out in 2015.
