Project: Rushall Crescent, Fitzroy North

The prominent corner site in the Heritage Overlay of the Yarra Planning Scheme, required a sensitive design solution that provided contemporary living accommodation at the rear of the existing brick Victorian villa. The addition was designed as a subtly contemporary element at the rear of the of the existing brick Victorian villa with a simple form, sympathetic scale and complementary materials. A small internal courtyard was created to provide light and vegetation at the junction between the old and new sections of the house, and the generous volume of the new family room at the rear reflects the high ceilings of the original house. Extensive glazing takes advantage of the garden and views across to the picturesque skyline of the Old Colonist’ Association buildings to the north.
