Project: Theatre Royal, Castlemaine
The Theatre Royal is the earliest known continuously operating theatre in Victoria, being originally constructed in 1858 as a hotel and theatre, redeveloped as a movie theatre the 1920s and further remodelled in 1938. The building is included on the Victorian Heritage Register.
Coleman Architects oversaw urgent conservation works including stabilising the auditorium roof structure and installing protective roofing over the original metal pan tiles. Several building compliance issues including inadequate fire escapes were also resolved. In 2019-20 we documented further structural remediation and associated conservation works to the main façade.
